Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- General & Services
- What is liquid floor screed and how does it work?
Liquid floor screed (also known as flow screed or liquid screed) is a pumpable flooring compound designed to create a smooth, perfectly level base for final floor coverings. Unlike traditional semi-dry sand and cement, liquid screed flows quickly around obstacles and pipework to eliminate air pockets, delivering superior flatness and finish.
- What services do Liquid Screed Specialists provide?
We offer a complete floor levelling service, including:
-
Full Supply, Pump & Finish Packages: We handle the supply, pumping, levelling, and smoothing of liquid screed.
-
Liquid Screed Pump Hire: Separate hire of our specialist pumping equipment (including pressure-tested Putzmeister SP11 pumps).
-
Expert Technical Advice: Tailored recommendations on the best screed product for your specific project (e.g., fast-drying or high-thermal-efficiency options).
-
- What areas do you cover?
Based in South Wales, we regularly cover:
-
South & West Wales (e.g., Cardiff, Penarth, Pontypridd, Carmarthenshire, Brecon, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Vale of Glamorgan)
-
The South West of England
-
Along the M4 Corridor
-
The Midlands
We work with self-builders, domestic homeowners, and small-to-large building contractors across all these regions.

- Benefits & Applications
- Why choose liquid screed over traditional sand and cement?
Why choose liquid screed over traditional sand and cement?
Liquid screed offers several significant advantages:
-
Speed of Application: Poured and finished significantly faster than traditional screeds.
-
Superior Finish: Achieves high surface precision, flatness, and smoothness.
-
Thinner Depths: Can be laid at lower thicknesses without compromising strength.
-
Zero Air Voids: Completely encapsulates underfloor heating pipes for maximum heat transference.
-
Reduced Risk of Shrinkage: Minimal cracking and movement compared to standard mortar mixes.
-
- Is liquid screed suitable for Underfloor Heating (UFH)?
Yes, it is ideal for underfloor heating. Because liquid screed is fluid, it flows closely around heating pipes, removing insulating air gaps. This allows heat to transfer into your room faster and more efficiently, saving energy and reducing running costs.
- Can liquid screed be used on projects with tight or difficult access?
Yes. Using specialised pumps like our Putzmeister SP11 and flexible pipeline setups, we can pump liquid screed across long distances, around tight corners, through narrow pathways, or into elevated/basement areas where traditional ready-mix deliveries cannot reach.
- Preparation & Drying Times
- What site preparation is needed before pouring liquid screed?
Before pouring, the building envelope should be weather-tight (roof, doors, and windows installed). The floor sub-base must be tanked with a waterproof membrane (polythene), perimeter expansion insulation strip installed around the walls, and any underfloor heating pipes securely fixed down to prevent floating during the pour. We are happy to advise your building team on best-practice prep before we arrive.
- How long does liquid screed take to dry before walking on it?
-
Foot Traffic: Liquid screed can typically withstand light foot traffic within 24 to 48 hours after pouring.
-
Final Floor Coverings: Full drying times depend on floor thickness, ambient temperature, humidity, and the specific product used. Standard screeds dry at approximately 1mm per day up to 40mm. However, we also supply fast-drying screed options (such as Tarmac Screed C-Cure or Longfloor) if you are working to tight project timelines.
